When Walter Phelps was a little boy, he had an incredible experience.  He said to anothe little boy, "My father can lik your father," and then actually saw his father do so.  As a result, his father became a heroic figure to him, larger than life-size, almost God-like.  When Walter learned that his father died broke because of stock market speculations, and worse, that he was hated by nearly everyone in toen, the shock sent Walter into a series of wild, mocking, retalitory actions against the town.  In each one of these acts of defiance he believes in the arrogant and brutal manner that would have been his fathers.

A novel written in 1948 that could be planted in 2009.  The pages are clean and the binding is tight.  The mylar cover that the library put on really did not help that much, as you can see in the picture.  Still, this book is not exactly common today, very few for sale on the web.  Consider it a very solid reading copy.
