Product Information Title: Arctic Assignment The Story of the St. Roch Author: Sgt. F.S. Farrar, R.C.M.P. Format: Hardcover ISBN: none Publisher: Macmillan Company of CanadaLimited Number of Pages: 180 Publication Date: 1955
Sgt. Farrar is a Canadian author and was a member of the RCMP and in 1950 was the first man in history to have sailed completely around the North American contintent. This book tells that story in the following chapters: Trapped in the Ice; Sailing Orders; The Sky and the Sea; Heavy Weather; Through Bering Strait; In the Pack Ice; Frenchie Collapses; Arctic Winter, 1940-1941; Under Way Again; In the Northwest Passage; A Funeral; The St. Roch Breaks Through.
This is the first edition and was printed in Canada - it does not have a dust jacket. I consider this book to be common with value.
The boards have some rubbing and edege wear, spine is a little soiled, clean pages free of writing and starting to tan, strong binding free of any signs of cracking, there is a book plate on the FFEP, and the end papers have a map showing the path of the voyage. The book is illustrated by Vernon Mould.
